Working Alone Planning

In BC and accross Canada, there are additional requirements beyond identifying and controlling hazards when a worker works alone or in isolation.  Working alone or in isolation means to work in circumstances where assistance would not be readily available to the worker in case of an emergency, or is injured or in ill health.

How HSC can help...

HSC assists in determining if workers fit the definition of working alone or in isolation as it is not always clear as assistance doesn't always mean assistance from another person employed by you.  Once we determine that the Working Alone requirements are necessary, I work with organizations to determine the risk level and the frequency and practical technology necessary to check on the well-being of the worker.  Creating the necessary documentation is critical in ensuring that the system is being used, working effectively and can be demonstrated to a WorkSafeBC officer.

Working Alone plans that I've created include those for business travel, lone worker in office settings, home visits for care providers, and providing transportation to a client.  Each work environment differs; however, the elements of checking on the well-being of a worker are universal.  I create practical plans for organziations with workers working alone.
